Keyboard shortcuts

This page lists every keyboard and click shortcut in Hule, by where it works. You can change the shortcuts in these groups of User settings → Hot keys:

  • Global;
  • Task;
  • Editor;
  • Views (the click shortcuts).

Esc and Enter, Formatting and Inbox keys can't be changed.

Key names and typing

Name on this pageMacWindows and Linux
ModCmd (⌘)Ctrl
AltOption (⌥)Alt

Shortcuts without Mod never fire while you type in a field or the editor. That covers letters such as S or E, and Alt+1 … Alt+9.

Changing a shortcut

  1. Open User settings → Hot keys (Manage your account). Every changeable shortcut is listed with its keys.

  2. Click Edit next to the shortcut. The row waits for the new shortcut:

    ShortcutThe row showsThen
    Keyboard shortcutsPress shortcut…press the new combination
    Open pinned sidebar itemPress modifiers with any digit 1–9…press the new modifiers with any digit
    Click shortcutsClick anywhere holding your shortcut…click anywhere while holding the new modifiers

    Edit is greyed out?

    The shortcut is off. Turn on its switch first; four of the click shortcuts start off.

  3. Press or click as the table says. The row shows the new shortcut. Esc cancels instead.

To turn a shortcut off, use its switch.

If the combination is taken, Hule names the shortcut that uses it and keeps the old one. For example, binding Mod+, to Open search shows:

text
⌘, is already bound to "Open settings"

On Windows and Linux it reads Ctrl+,. Open search stays on Mod+K.

Rules:

  • Desktop-only keys in a browser. In a browser:
    • Find is hidden in Hot keys, because the browser owns Mod+F;
    • New task and Add subtask use Mod+M, because the browser owns Mod+N. A key you set for them in Hot keys applies in the desktop app too;
    • Mod+R and Mod+Plus / Mod+Minus do the browser's own reload and zoom.
  • Pins by number. Alt+1 … Alt+9 open the first to ninth pin on the collapsed sidebar; a folder pin expands the sidebar and shows the folder.
  • Changing the pin keys. Pressing Mod+Shift+3 after Edit sets Mod+Shift+1 … 9.

These work while a task is open.

Toggle focus mode expands the open task window (the Focus mode button in its header). It works only when the task opens as a window, not inside a GTD or Scrum Poker session.

Editor shortcuts

These work while the cursor is in a task description or a comment.

Click shortcuts in views

These are a modifier held while you click a task. Only Select task is on from the start; turn the others on in Hot keys. The views are compared in Views compared.

List rows appear in:

  • the List view, and a GTD view outside a session;
  • a Scrum Poker view before a session starts;
  • the List widget of a dashboard;
  • the subtasks of an open task.

Permissions for click actions

All four action clicks need Edit access to the list. Delete task also needs Delete in the Tasks block; the other three need Update in the Tasks block and, in the Task fields block, the field they change: Status, or Dates for the due date. See Permissions and access.

The four action clicks show a toast with Cancel for 5 seconds; Cancel or Esc undoes the change.

Delete task deletes on the click

After the 5-second toast, the task and its subtasks are gone. Turn this shortcut on only if you want deleting to be one click.

Esc and Enter keys

These keys can't be changed and are not listed in Hot keys.
