# Personal and work tasks in one place

You keep personal tasks and each team's tasks in separate [workspaces](/concepts/hule-model),
and you see them together in your own [views](/concepts/views).

> **Workspaces keep work apart for the people you share it with; your personal views bring it together for you.**

## Two workspaces, one view of your day

  YOU["You"]
  WP["Workspace: Personal"]
  WA["Workspace: Acme"]
  LH["List: Home"]
  LP["List: Product"]
  PV["Personal view: My day"]
  HP["Home page"]
  COL["Colleague"]

  YOU -- "belongs to" --> WP
  YOU -- "belongs to" --> WA
  WP -- "contains" --> LH
  WA -- "contains" --> LP
  PV -- "shows tasks from" --> WP
  PV -- "shows tasks from" --> LP
  YOU -- "owns" --> PV
  PV -- "opens as your" --> HP
  COL -- "belongs to" --> WA
```
Each task still lives in one list of one workspace. The personal view only shows it, so the
team at Acme keeps working with the same task, and your colleague, who belongs only to Acme,
never sees the other workspace.
## Separate workspaces for separate people
A workspace is the boundary of [sharing](/concepts/sharing) and of
[permission sets](/reference/permissions-and-access). That is why work and personal life belong
in different workspaces — people in Acme never see the lists in your Personal workspace unless
you [invite](/guides/invite-members-and-grant-permissions) them there, and you can leave a job's workspace
without touching the rest. More in [Sharing along the hierarchy](/concepts/sharing).
::: danger Leaving a workspace
**Leave workspace** ends your access to everything in it until someone invites you again; your
tasks, comments and time logs there stay attributed to you. An owner can't leave. If it is the
last workspace you belong to, leaving deletes your account, with your personal views, folders and pins.
See [Manage your account](/guides/manage-your-account).
:::
When you sign up, Hule creates a workspace named after you, like **Anna's workspace** (the examples
here call it **Personal**). You can create more on a computer, or join a team's workspace when someone
invites you.
* **On a computer**, the sidebar's **Workspaces** section lists every workspace one under
  another, so you move between them by scrolling; on a phone you pick one at a time.
* **In each workspace** you can appear differently: your name, **Contact email** and avatar
  color are set per workspace in **Member profile**
  ([Manage your account](/guides/manage-your-account)), so you can be "Anna" in Personal and
  "Anna K." at Acme.
## Personal views gather across workspaces
A **personal view** belongs to you alone and sits under **User Views** in the sidebar. Its
**Sources** ([Views as lenses on tasks](/concepts/views)) can be lists, folders or whole workspaces from any workspace you belong to. A
team's views cannot do this: a workspace view draws only from its own workspace.
### Sample personal view: My day
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Sources | workspace **Personal** + list **Product** in **Acme** |
| Filter | **Assignee** is **Me (current user)**, and **Due date** **is on or before** **Today** |
| View type | **List**, grouped by **List** |
Right-click the view and pick **Set as home**, and Hule opens on it instead of the start screen
with your **Recent** items ([Build your own Today view](/guides/build-a-today-view)). You can keep several such
views:
* a focus list;
* a week on a [**Calendar**](/guides/plan-on-timeline-and-calendar);
* a [**Dashboard**](/guides/build-a-dashboard) across both workspaces.
Put them in [personal folders](/guides/organize-folders-and-lists) under **User Views**; personal
folders hold only views and other folders, never lists or tasks.
## Search and notifications across workspaces
Two more features look across all your workspaces:
* [Search](/guides/find-anything) (Cmd/Ctrl+K) finds tasks, lists, folders and views in
  every workspace you belong to; the tabs above the results narrow it to one kind.
* The **Inbox** page shows your [notifications](/guides/set-up-notifications) from all
  workspaces in one place.
## Cross-workspace limits
* You cannot move a task, or link it with a [relation](/concepts/relations), to another workspace.
* You cannot move a list to another workspace.
* A task's assignee must be a member of the task's workspace.
* A personal view cannot be shared: a view for colleagues belongs in their workspace.
* [Tags](/guides/tag-tasks) belong to one workspace each: two **urgent** tags from two workspaces are two different
  values in a filter.
## Personal views in the Hule model
* Workspaces, folders and lists are the tree in [The Hule model](/concepts/hule-model); personal
  views and search look across the workspace boundary, and only for you.
* A personal **GTD** view clarifies tasks from several workspaces in one
  session: see [GTD in Hule](/concepts/gtd).
